Alloying elements present in HSS properties:
- Carbon : forms carbides, increases wear resistance, is responsible for the basic matrix hardness.
- Tungsten and molybdenum: improve red hardness, retention of hardness and high temperature strength of the matrix, form special carbides of great hardness.
- Vanadium: forms special carbides of supreme hardness, increases high temperature wear resistance, retention of hardness and high temperature strength of the matrix.
- Chromium: promotes depth hardening, produces readily soluble carbides.
- Cobalt: improves red hardness and retention of hardness of the matrix.

PM 23 – also known as ASP2023 is a chromium- molybdenum-tungsten alloyed vanadium steel which is a economical high powder grade metallurgical cold work steel, Suitable for blanking & forming of thinner work materials where a abrasive type of wear is encountered. It is also known as Powder HSS M2
PM4 - also known as ASP4 is a high Vanadium-chromium- molybdenum-tungsten alloyed steel which is a high powder grade metallurgical cold work steel, Suitable where adhesive wear & chipping are the dominant problems occur such as SS, Mild steel, copper, aluminum or thicker work material
PM 30 - also known as ASP2030 is a very high performance Powder metallurgical material having a optimal high cobalt (8%) - vanadium-chromium- molybdenum-tungsten alloyed steel, Suitable for machining of nickel-base and titanium alloys, for heavy and interrupted cuts, such as gear hobs, shapers, milling cutters, twist drills, taps and broaching tools
PM 52 - also known as ASP2052 is a very high performance Powder metallurgical material having a optimal high cobalt (8%)– high vanadium- high Tungsten(10%) -chromium- molybdenum alloyed steel, Suitable for machining of nickel-base and titanium alloys, for heavy and interrupted cuts, such as gear hobs, shapers, milling cutters, twist drills, taps and broaching tools
PM 60 – also known as ASP2060 is the highest performance PM material among all the categories. With high cobalt - vanadium-chromium- molybdenum-tungsten alloyed steel. It is machinable & is available in few sizes only. Suitable for fast, high wear & chipping machinability, works with high graded steel aluminum, carbon contained alloys etc. Turning and milling tools for roughing and finishing work, wood working tools, highly stressed cold work tools, tool bits.
